Post B'nai Mitzvah

Temple Ramat Zion is committed to providing the highest quality Jewish experience, so each child can discover their personal and unique connection to Judaism and develop a positive and strong Jewish identity.

Religious School

Under the direction of Julia Levine, the guiding educational philosophy of our Religious School is to instill students with a love of learning, Judaism and commitment to Israel. We seamlessly weave Jewish learning throughout our educational programs, helping them develop the skills and knowledge necessary to observe holiday rituals and participate in services, and read and speak Hebrew. At the completion of their studies, they understand Jewish history and culture, and are involved in Jewish communal needs (Tikkun Olam). Our students are not only educated in the classroom, they are also encouraged and expected to participate in Friday night services, on Shabbat mornings and once a month to attend our Kolot Shabbat services. Each grade level prepares a special Erev Shabbat service for the congregation, where they demonstrate what they’ve learned throughout the year.

Dor Atid

Knowing how challenging it is to keep post B’nai Mitzvah students involved in synagogue life, the Dor Atid program helps students relate what they’ve learned to their practical lives. Meeting with their teacher twice a month, students in 8th and 9th grades spend time together, nosh on snacks, study and discuss subjects that just happen to be referred to in the Torah, and focus their learning on a class project.

Confirmation

Confirmation classes build on the discussions, values and decision-making process that students began in Dor Atid. Students have the opportunity to debate with each other and analyze their thoughts on the issues. Rabbi Sela brings the Jewish perspective and Jewish values inherent in the subject matter to the forefront. Students leave the confirmation seminar with a greater understanding of the way Jewish values affect their decision making process.

Social Groups

As a member of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, TRZ sponsors Kadima and USY (United Synagogue Youth) chapters, allocating resources and taking the necessary steps to ensure the success of these groups and their members.

Kadima and USY work to strengthen Jewish identity in our youth, by keeping them engaged in our synagogue and community. They foster meaningful relationships with Judaism through social, educational, recreational, and cultural activities including chapter, regional and international programs. One of their goals is to encourage and produce future leadership for synagogues and the Conservative movement, which they continue to be greatly successful at.

Youth Director Danielle Newland, who grew up in the Conservative movement at Temple Ramat Zion, now runs the Kadima and USY programs.
