B'nai Mitzvah Information & Deposits

The time has already come to assign a Bar or Bat Mitzvah date. We are very excited about working with you as preparations begin for this milestone in your child’s life.

In our congregation, a Bar or Bat Mitzvah is celebrated by the child participating in the Friday evening and Saturday morning services. These are the most important congregational services in Jewish worship, and the Bar or Bat Mitzvah child’s participation culminates with the chanting of the Maftir (a part of the weekly Torah portion) and Haftarah (the weekly selection from the Prophets) on Shabbat morning.

A Bar or Bat Mitzvah is a celebration of a child’s entering Jewish adulthood. At our congregation, we schedule B’nai Mitzvah after the child’s 13th Hebrew birthday on a date convenient for your family. After meeting with the Rabbi and Cantor, you will select a Saturday date for your child’s Bar or Bat Mitzvah. This date will be approved.

It is very important to us that our families feel familiar with our services, well in advance of the "big day." It is not too early to get into the habit of attending services! We would also like to make you aware at this time - although it's early - that there are B'nai Mitzvah attendance requirements, which become effective one year before your selected date, and keeping that date is contingent on completion of the requirements.

You will receive a letter asking you to indicate your acceptance of this date by signing the tear-off, and return it to the Temple office as soon as possible with your deposit.
