| Dor Atid - For all 8th and 9th graders Dor Atid means "The Generation of the Future". On Sunday, the class will consist of hands on activities or field trips. On Wednesdays, the class will consist of learning and group discussions on the Judaic value of Sunday's activities. The goal of the class is to connect Jewish values, morals and ethics with our actions and how they affect our life and the community. Through actions, students will shape their hearts into thinking and living Jewish values that will in turn shape their future and the future of those whose lives they touch. Homework will NOT be given. The TRZ Confirmation Program is a way of keeping students committed to Jewish education beyond bar and bat mitzvah celebrations. Confirmation is focused on the students' commitment to Judaism. The class will weave Judaism and Jewish values with every day issues that our teens face in today's world. Topics will include: Dating and the Jewish Teen, Peer Pressure and Jewish Values, Drugs or Drash: making decisions that will affect the rest of your life, etc. In contrast to bar and bat mitzvah, Confirmation is a group event. Students in a class are confirmed together and they often prepare a tzedakah project as a group as part of their confirmation. This emphasizes the importance of communal action that is at the heart of Judaism. In an age in which many bar and bat mitzvah celebrations -- Reform, Conservative and Orthodox -- are overshadowed by the party after the service, it is good to have an event for the congregation at which its young people sincerely express their Jewish values without the hoopla of a lavish party.
